20 department members are presenting their research at the 4S conference!

We are very pleased that our department is strongly represented at this year’s 4S ANNUAL MEETING, which takes place 6-9 October and worldwide thanks to their virtual platform. Topics include health and security data, biobanks, machine learning in forensics, soil science, digital architecture, AI governance, rocket science, biometric boarder technologies, craft & repair practices in social movements, alternative housing, smart traffic lights, cybersex, research infrastructures, academic work in pandemic times, as well as science communication and public engagement.

The following papers will be presented at the 4S conference:

  • Ulrike Felt, Luca Lindner, Susanne Öchsner and Robin Rae present their paper "Should I Provide My Digital Health Data For Research? - Citizens’ Registers Of (E)valuation And Justification"
  • Ulrike Felt, Lisa-Maria Ferent and Ingrid Metzler talk about "On Entanglements And Separations Of Sample/Data Along Their Journey Through Biobanks"
  • Sarah Davies describes ”The ’good’ academic in unsettled times”. She is also co-organizing the panel "Making science in public: Studying relations within science communication and public engagement"
  • Maximilian Fochler, Ruth Falkenberg and Lisa Sigl speak about "Changing epistemic commitments of a research field? Soil sciences and its orientation towards global challenges"
  • Sarah Davies and Esther Dessewffy present their paper "Digital Architecture Research and the Enactment of Aesthetics"
  • Fredy Mora Gàmez will talk about "Curating and Recrafting as alternative repairs"
  • Bao-Chau Pham will present her paper about "Governing Artificial Intelligence: “Trustworthy AI” as European Imaginary"
  • Nina Witjes-Klimburg is co-organizing the panel "Dis/connected – Reassembling security through digital data practices" and speaks about her paper "Rocket Politics: European space infrastructures in the New Space Age"
  • Katja Mayer will talk together with Sofie Kronberger about "Training Trust: Negotiating Machine Learning in Forensic Analytics in Criminal Prosecution"
  • Kamiel Mobach explains in details "CERN’s Detectors as Layered Infrastructures for International Collaboration"
  • Andrea Schikowitz will talk about "Assembling digital infrastructures in alternative housing & activism"
  • Pouya Sepehr presents his paper "Coded jaywalkers and the performativity of smart traffic lights"
  • Ekaterina Osipova talks about "Cyber Toy Stories - (Re)scripting Technosexual Utopias in Marketing Teledildonics"
  • Paul Trautmannsdorff discusses "Making biometric borders interoperable. A necessary political fiction?"
