Public and policy debates regarding nuclear power in the US involve entangled questions of economic, safety, and environmental risk. This presentation highlights some of the issues at stake including financing challenges for new nuclear construction, negotiations underway between the industry and its regulators regarding nuclear safety after Fukushima, and the rhetorical strategies of nuclear opponents and advocates. Perspectives drawn from Science and Technology Studies and Communication Studies help to illuminate the complex interconnections among these issues.
