Research as Culture and Practice

This topic has a longstanding history at the STS department. For instance, we study how researchers live in contemporary academia and how this relates to their practices of knowing, how efforts to produce relevant (often interdisciplinary) knowledge clash with established disciplinary logics, how institutions conceptualize scientific misconduct, and how researchers communicate with different audiences. This domain also embraces reflections on the institutional frameworks in which culture and practice can (not) develop. Disciplines studied range from material sciences to the social sciences or life sciences. In this domain, our track record in developing new methods is particularly strong.
